The Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has long built its reputation on attrition as much as spectacle. From the 7th to 14 of June, crashes, illness, exhaustion, and withdrawals can completely reshape the race, whether in chaotic bunch sprints, freezing mountain conditions or much more.

Stage 1

The first stage of the race saw plenty riders already withdraw from the race, a difficult day in the mountains where there was no shortage of suffering. Matthew Riccitello of Decathlon abandoned the race after contracting an illness, putting Paul Seixas is a more fragile position when it comes to the race's mountainous stages.
Furthermore Picnic PostNL's Juan Guillermo Martínez and NSN duo Brady Gilmore and Rotem Teme have all withdrawn from the race as well. Astana's Florian Samuel Kajamini has been removed from the race after missing out on the time limit for the stage.

Stage 2

Two more DNF's on stage 2. Both Roel van Sintmaartensdijk of Lotto-Intermarché, and Gorka Sorarrain of the Caja Rural - Seguros RGA team abandoned the race on stage 2.

Stage 3

Diego Pescador (Movistar Team): did not start stage 3 due to a flu-like illness after a bad night - abandoned the race

Stage 4 

UAE's Ivo Oliveira did not start the stage whilst at the finish, it was Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe's Haimar Etxeberria who did not cross the line. Throughout the stage we've also seen crashes from Baptiste Veistroffer and Sam Watson, two riders who finished the stage together in the last two positions.

Stage 5

Three riders were DNS at the start of the day, with Matej Mohoric, and Movistar Team duo Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda and Ivan Romeo all out of the race through illness.

Stage 6

Six riders DNS on stage 6. Wout van Aert leaves the race for medical examinations following a training crash last week. Other riders not to take to the line included Michael Matthews, Finn Fisher-Black, Matevž Govekar, Hannes Wilksch and Pau Marti.
There were abandonments during the stage. Josh Tarling suffered a crash and left the race, Kevin Geniets and Senna Remijn also abandoned.
There were also crashes for Dillon Corkery, Santiago Buitrago and Oscar Onley during the stage, but those riders finished.
