The
TotalEnergies rider has been one of the revelations this season with a string of strong performances in hilly races, culminating in a stage win at Paris-Nice where he managed to attack and hold off the peloton towards the finale.
Mathieu Burgaudeau was set to complete a strong spring but has suffered a crash at the
Classic Loire Atlantique which has left him with several injuries.
In the French race, won by Anthony Perez, Burgaudeau was one of the favourites but crashed out. He suffered a broken collarbone and shoulder blade in the fall, aswell as a pneumothorax. It is unclear when the Frenchman will be able to resume competition at the time being.
Burgaudeau has taken to his Instagram to talk about his injuries, in which he said that "it is with great difficulty that I will not take part in races in the month of April, specially as my physical condition continnued to improve." Despite the lengthy recovery period ahead, it is expected that he'll be able to resume training in time to prepare for the Tour de France, where it is likely that he will be making his Grand Tour debut.
