Joxean Fernández Matxín has shared his opinion on the first days in the mountains of the Tour de France and how much the race has changed since
Tadej Pogacar began gaining serious time on Jonas Vingegaard - but not with the confidence that the race is in the bag.
The Spanish manager is clear that they would never have dreamed of having such an advantage over the Visma leader after so few mountains in the Grande Boucle, as said to
Cyclism'Actu:
"Four wins and four minutes in the general classification, it's unbelievable. We would never, in the best of times, have imagined having four minutes advantage after only two mountain stages. So it's perfection, at this moment, in these stages."
Over four minutes have already been created between the two, whilst the rest of the field is head and shoulders below the top two contenders for overall victory. However, he wants to be cautious, making it clear that there is still a long Tour de France ahead and that victory cannot be taken for granted yet, far from it:
"There are still many ahead. For now, everything is calm: we have to polish the yellow jersey and keep calm. Many things could cause Tadej to lose: incidents, problems, the conditions, the form... But for the moment, everything is going well."
