The second stage of the
Tour of Oman saw a different sprint, although UAE once again did the leadout well, this time Fernando Gaviria didn't have the power to stay in front and was swarmed by some riders who finished ahead of him, inbetwee them was Groves.
After the second stage of the Tour of Oman, Team BikeExchange sprinter
Kaden Groves has said, through the team's media: “I had good legs and again we put ourselves in a position to win, and I was just beaten by a faster man on the day in the end. But again, I think we’re ready for the rest of the week and it’s exciting to see how we’re doing so early in the season and with a new bunch of guys."
"It’s nice to be consistent, my legs were a lot better today, my shapes good, and the commitment by the team, I can’t fault it. Hopefully in the next days I can get that bit more luck and keep improving and we can get a win soon. In general it was a pretty boring day, but pretty annoying actually with the direction of the wind, it was crosswinds all day but nothing strong enough to cause any splits," the Australian added.
Kaden Groves, twenty three years of age, has a few professional wins but is yet to prove himself alongside the best sprinters in the world. That day seems to be, however, getting closer: "The guys did a really good job, we decided to leave the run-in real late, it’s a small peloton here so we figured we could come from the back to the front quite easily, and we did that. We lined up with our full team, used all of our guys into the roundabout with around 2km to go. In the end it worked out really well, it was a little bit sketchy in the final straight because the wind was right on our side but I was able to contest the sprint well.”
Having finished third and second until now in the sprints, he will have one more chance to improve, and perhaps turn his consistency into a win on the final day.
