After starring at the Vuelta a Espana in recent years,
Michael Storer turned his attention to the
Giro d'Italia in 2024 as part of the
Tudor Pro Cycling Team's Grand Tour debut. Proving himself as a general classification rider, the Australian secured the first Grand Tour top-10 of his career.
“I am super happy about this top 10. It shows that I can mix up with the best guys for three weeks," reflected the delighted 27-year-old in his post-race reflection. As mentioned, in the past Storer has impressed at the Vuelta, most notably in 2021 when he took two stage wins and the King of the Mountains jersey. This though, was the first time he attempted a general classification challenge at a Grand Tour. "If I keep improving, maybe I can turn this top 10 into a podium one day.”
With this being the first Grand Tour in the history of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team, there was extra delight at Storer securing himself his first career top-10. “We came here to win a stage. We didn’t but we built a great group, and we go home knowing that we always gave our best," assesses the team's Sport Director Matteo Tosatto. “After years fighting for the GC podium, I lived this Giro with the same emotions. I’m very happy about the team’s results, I liked the atmosphere and I am very proud of the way we approached the race.”
“I never experienced the last day of Giro as a rider, so I am very proud that I could now in a different role," adds the boss of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team, Swiss cycling legend,
Fabian Cancellara. "The experience we gathered on the way is our biggest victory and I am convinced it will help lift the team to another level.”
Having made the switch down to continental level with his move from Groupama - FDJ to the Tudor Pro Cycling Team at the start of this year, Storer has quickly vindicated his keenness for more opportunities to prove himself in the biggest races.
