For the third time in his career, Dylan van Baarle looks set to head to Australia and compete in the Tour Down Under in the opening of the 2025 World Tour season.
"In December, the schedules for 2025 will be announced," says the 32-year-old Dutchman on his and Wout Poels' podcast In Koers. "The coaches met last week to finalize the programs. I will hear it officially soon, but it looks like I am heading to the Tour Down Under. I have also indicated that myself. Especially after last year, which didn't go as I wanted, it seemed good to start early and get that engine running again."
After a bit of a disappointing campaign in 2024, Van Baarle will be looking to make more of a mark in 2025. In a year plagued by injuries, illness and bad luck, the former Paris-Roubaix winner DNF'd both the Vuelta a Espana and the Criterium du Dauphine and failed to finish higher than his 34th at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in February.
Van Baarle also joins a growing list of stars to have shown intent for the Tour Down Under in January 2025. The likes of Geraint Thomas, Alberto Bettiol, Bauke Mollema and others are likely to head to Australia to open their season.
