Isaac del Toro didn't miss a beat and took his chrono-route double at the Mexican
national championships. A native of Ensenada, where the race was held, the UAE rider took his 18th victory of 2025 (although these last two will officially count towards the 2026 UCI calendar).
The race had no mystery. Del Toro attacked from afar and reached the finish line alone, achieving a victory that will make him wear the colors of the Mexican flag on the chest of his jersey throughout the next season.
In Ensenada, Baja California,
Del Toro won in a 160-kilometer course with the finish line at the junction of the Carretera Libre a Rosarito and Carretera Francisco Zarco. A breakaway of the strongest men was soon formed, including the three riders on the podium of the time trial. Along with Del Toro, the silver and bronze handed to Eder Frayre and Jose Gerardo Ulloa.
And Isaac del Toro did not disappoint. The UAE Team Emirates XRG star took the victory in the road race of this Mexico 2025 Championship after riding the final kilometers with Frayre, but dropping him 4 kilometers from the Alto del Tigre and 8 kilometers from the finish line. He will therefore wear the colors of his country on the jersey of the Emirati team for the whole of next season.
"It was a joy to take this win. To share it with the people of my home city has been a pleasure. I think I recognised 98% of the crowd out there today and it felt amazing," Del Toro said in a post-race interview.
"It was really windy out on the course, it made the race that bit tougher but I'm proud and happy to take the win. I hope cycling in Mexico can continue to grow. It will take time of course but there are a lot of positive things happening and I hope I can help play a small part in that. It's been an amazing season, now it's time for me to take a good break but I'm excited to wear the Mexican champions jersey in 2026."
An unforgettable year
Isaac del Toro's year 2025, which officially concludes today, has been truly unforgettable. He began by winning the Milano-Torino classic back in March and then completed a historic Giro d'Italia in which he came close to victory, won a stage and confirmed himself as a great star of world cycling. From then on, learning from his mistake on stage 20 on the road to Sestrière, he has done nothing but win.
First, he won the Tour of Austria with three stage victories and the overall, then he won the Terres de l'Ebre and the Circuito de Getxo. After winning the overall in Vuelta Burgos came his crazy end of the season in Italy with wins in the GP Industria, the Giro della Toscana, the Coppa Sabatini, the Trofeo Matteotti, the Giro dell'Emilia, the Gran Piemonte and the Giro del Veneto.
