Dorian Godon seems to have settled in
INEOS Grenadiers rather quickly. The French champion demonstrated this again on Wednesday with his third victory of the season. As this is already Godon's second stage won at this
Volta a Catalunya, the 29-year-old maintains a steady lead in the general classification halfway through the stage race. And tomorrow's shortened stage will present yet another opportunity for fast men and Godon in particular.
You'd think Godon would be over the moon with this debut, but that's not exactly the case. In fact, the Frenchman would've preferred to have won all three stages until now! "Yesterday (Tuesday) night, I was a bit frustrated not to have won. I wasn't happy, so I wanted to win again today (Wednesday)," Godon said at the finish.
"The start of the race wasn't too difficult; we controlled it with Victor Langellotti. Then the tension rose, and we stayed safe. When the crosswinds appeared, we were in a good position, and then I saw Remco Evenepoel break away with Jonas Vingegaard. After that, all the guys on the team rode to catch them, and the team leader - Oscar Onley - and Bob Jungels launched me, so it was incredible."
Rather than Godon's stunning victory, the attention was drawn to Remco Evenepoel on and after stage 3. As his advantage melted in last kilometer, the Belgian
made a mistake and fell painfully - something Godon wasn't even aware of at the time, he adits: "I didn't even see Remco fall, I was so focused on the sprint," he explains. "I really wanted to win today, now [on Friday, because
Vallter 2000 summit was cancelled, ed.] we'll start the stages for the general classification."
