David Gaudu will lead Groupama-FDJ at upcoming Tour de France. The 26-year old Frenchman looks ahead to 'La Grande Boucle' on his team's website, where he also explains his personal expectations and ambitions for the three-week race.
"I try to put things into perspective and tell myself that I wasn't really stronger in the Dauphiné last year," Gaudu begins his analysi. Gaudu concluded the Critérium du Dauphiné in a disappointing 30th place.
"The team, the trainers and the performance department of the team also analyzed what happened during the training camp and during the Dauphiné. I just wasn't in shape. It's really that simple. They immediately motivated me again and I trust their analyses. I have already been able to show this weekend that I am in good shape and that I have recovered well," he points to his performance during the French championship, which was won by his teammate Valentin Madouas.
"It wasn't easy to deal with because I've often been offended," Gaudu explains about the alleged "quarrels" with Démare and Pinot. After his lesser performance in the Dauphiné, Gaudu has not remained in sackcloth and ashes. "If you get hit, don't stay on the ground. You always have to get up. When we got back to work, maybe we were even more motivated, and I think that bodes well for the Tour," the number four in the 2022 Tour expresses hope. "I think what happens in June means nothing for July. We will do our best for a podium place."
