Kaden Groves knows a thing or two about winning at the
Vuelta a Espana. With four Vuelta stage wins to his name and a Green Jersey from 2023, the Australian has his first chance for success on stage 2 of the 2024 edition.
"My legs feel really good. We've had a good preparation and I'm ready for it. We have to take our chances," the
Alpecin-Deceuninck sprinter says in a pre-stage 2 interview with VTM, referencing the limited number of sprint opportunities in this Grand Tour, where even stage 2 can hardly be called a 'flat stage'.
With the likes of Wout van Aert, Pavel Bittner, Bryan Coquard and Corbin Strong among others the rest of the sprinting force at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana, Groves would arguably be considered the fastest of the bunch on paper. Whether that still proves the case after an up and down, hilly day? Only time will tell.
“It will be a tough stage, but I expect it to be a bunch sprint. There aren’t many pure sprinters in this race and it’s already a really tough race. I expect a sprint at the end," Groves concludes. "I think I'm the favourite for today's stage. There are only a handful of chances for the sprinters and today is one of them.”
