"I really like the Tour de Suisse. I'm coming back to defend the title" - Joao Almeida continues build towards Tour de France

Whilst Tadej Pogacar steps up his Tour de France preparation at the Criterium du Dauphine, one of the Slovenian's key super domestiques Joao Almeida, has been announced as the leader of the UAE Team Emirates - XRG team for the upcoming 2025 Tour de Suisse.
“It’s been a pretty good season for me so far this year, and I want to keep on that path as we build up towards the Tour de France," previews the 26-year-old Portuguese star in a press release posted to the official website of UAE Team Emirates - XRG. “Training has been going well, we’ve just come back from altitude with most of the Tour team and now it’s time to test the legs."
Having won two stages last year, and finished 2nd overall behind teammate Adam Yates, Almeida is also tasked with defending the Tour de Suisse title for UAE. “It’s no secret that I really like the Tour du Suisse. After what we did here last year we will be coming back aiming to defend the title," he assesses. "It’s never an easy thing to do – but we’ll give it a good shot.”

- On stage 6, Pogačar was isolated, but then Visma mysteriously slowed down, allowing Pavel Sivakov to come back (along with Benjamin Tulett), which was all Pogačar needed. Kuss and Jorgenson should have carried on attacking - not that they'd have be able to drop Pogačar, but, in an absolute best scenario, they'd have stopped him from dropping Vingegaard.
