The 2025 season is coming to an end, and with it also comes the end of a pivotal stage in Davide Piganzoli's young career. The talented 23-year-old Italian is preparing to finish off his last season with Team Polti VisitMalta in style, before embarking on a new and ambitious adventure with Team Visma | Lease a Bike, one of the most powerful and successful squads in international cycling. The current season has been decisive for the Valtellinese rider.
After completing his second Giro d'Italia and scoring podium finishes in races such as O Gran Camiño, Route d'Occitanie and GP Industria & Artigianato, Piganzoli has cemented his reputation as one of the strongest up-and-comers in European cycling. These results have been the perfect springboard to his signing with the Dutch team, where he will share ranks with giants such as Jonas Vingegaard, Wout van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss.
Before wearing the colors of the team led by Richard Plugge, Piganzoli wants to close his cycle with Team Polti VisitMalta in the best possible way. "I really want to finish the season well," confessed the Italian to Tuttobiciweb. "I prepared well for this last part of the year, although a crash at the Tour of Luxembourg destabilized me a bit. I'm still not 100%, but I think I can improve. There are still opportunities ahead and I'll try to make the most of them."
The cyclist does not hide his emotion when he recalls his years with the Italian-Spanish structure, which saw him grow from the under-23 category to consolidate as a professional: "They have been five beautiful years. I took a lot of satisfaction with me and I think I also gave a lot to the team. It has been an experience that made me grow not only as a cyclist, but also as a person."

A new chapter with the world's best

The jump to Team Visma | Lease a Bike represents a change of dimension for Piganzoli. The team's interest came at the beginning of 2025 and soon materialized: "They contacted me in February, while I was competing in O Gran Camiño and Tirreno-Adriatico. We made a video call and I liked their project from the first moment. I signed the contract before climbing Teide to prepare for the Tour of the Alps. That gave me a lot of peace of mind."

Aware of the level of demand at his new destination, Piganzoli is excited about the opportunity to share the peloton with some of the most prominent figures in world cycling: "Racing with champions like those in Visma will be a great motivation. I know that in such a big team there is a lot to learn, but I'm sure I can make important steps."
The process of integrating into the new team has already begun. Together with two other Italian newcomers, Filippo Fiorelli (coming from VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizane) and Pietro Mattio (from Visma's development team), Piganzoli will take part in a first pre-season camp at the end of November: "It will be four days to get to know each other, test bikes, materials and start talking about the calendar. Then we will have another camp in December and one more in January, both in Spain," explained the Morbegno-born rider.
