Isaac del Toro’s extraordinary 2025 season shows no signs of slowing down. The 21-year-old Mexican added another remarkable chapter to his breakout year on Thursday afternoon, soloing to victory at Gran Piemonte 2025 to claim his 15th win of the campaign — a performance reminiscent of his superstar teammate Tadej Pogacar.
The decisive move came on the final ascent of Castelletto d’Erro, where Del Toro launched a searing attack from the peloton to bridge across to the remnants of the day’s breakaway. Moments later, he accelerated again, distancing Marc Hirschi and Bauke Mollema to go clear alone with 17.5km to go. His lead steadily grew on the descent, and by the time he entered the final 10 kilometres, the outcome was all but sealed.
“It’s incredible — it really feels like a dream,” Del Toro said at the finish to Cycling Pro Net. “I’m so happy and proud. Obviously it’s not just me — the whole team has been supporting me all season and that’s just amazing. It’s something we should all be really proud of.”

Tactical composure and explosive finish

The victory capped off a tense finale for UAE Team Emirates – XRG, who had only one rider up the road when the gap to the leaders hovered around 40 seconds with a lap remaining. But the team’s control of the race throughout the day, and Del Toro’s explosive late attack, proved decisive.
“It was a bit tricky to control because the breakaway was made up of several teams and we didn’t have many numbers left from our side,” he explained. “But everything came together quite well, and we managed to keep the gap just right to bring it back at the very last moment.”
For Del Toro, this win is about more than personal triumph — it’s a testament to his team’s collective strength. “Without my team-mates, this wouldn’t have been possible,” he said. “It’s something we should all be really proud of, and I know how privileged I am to have them.”
The young Mexican now turns his attention to Saturday’s season finale at Il Lombardia 2025, where he will line up alongside Pogacar and the sport’s biggest names in one of cycling’s five Monuments. “We’ll try to ride well and see what happens,” he said with a grin.
