Edward Theuns is having some good performances in the Belgian races, especially the ones where Mads Pedersen and Jasper Stuyven aren't present. The Trek-Segafredo rider found some freedom and is proving to be a very capable rider to achieve good results in the smaller races.
"I have chosen to ride smaller races such as Le Samyn, Nokere Koerse, and the Bredene Koksijde Classic. In those races, Mads and Jasper are not at the start. With Mads and Jasper, I always ride in a serving role. That is also normal because they are a step, maybe even several steps, above me. However, I have now decided to also go for results myself. I get those opportunities now too", said Theuns to Wielerflits.

This new freedom and good results will mean that Theuns is going to close the gap between him and Pedersen and Stuyven to get some shots at the bigger races. The Belgian dismisses this scenario.
"No, that's not my intention. They are really absolute leaders and I know from myself that in the real big classics, I fall short of winning," he continued. "Then it's up to me to see where I can do that. I enjoy going for my own chances. I can also say that I do that successfully when you see that I am regularly on the podium."
The 31-year old has been showing good form throughout this spring, having finished third at Le Samyn where Trek - Segafredo worked for him, and most recently he sprinted to second place behind Tim Merlier at the Nokere Koerse.
"Winning now would be another step up. We always try and I am happy that the team supports me in that. I hope it will come one day soon," the Trek-Segafredo rider concluded.
