For the third time in four days at the 2025
Tour de France,
Primoz Roglic found himself caught out in the finale on stage 4, suffering more time loss to drop to 1:27 down on his compatriot
Tadej Pogacar and the Maillot Jaune
Mathieu van der Poel heading into the stage 5 individual time trial.
Speaking in comments collected by ITV Sport as he warmed down on the rollers post-stage however, Roglic didn't seem too downhearted. When asked if he was still simply riding his way into the Tour, "Yes exactly," answered the Slovenian. "Like I said, for me it was quite tough to be honest, to come here with this tough start."
Having been forced to abandon the Giro d'Italia earlier this year following numerous crashes, it's somewhat understandable that Roglic isn't at his best in this challenging opening week. "If I was flying, I could ride up there with one leg! (laughs) But right now I'm suffering a lot," he admits. "But yeah, I always want to win. But in this case, I don't care about the time gaps, I put everything on the road day after day and then yeah, we'll see what that means at the end."
Although crashes have been prevalent so far this Tour, Roglic has been able to avoid them so far however, in a positive sign. "Don't say it too loud though!" Roglic laughs when this fact is mentioned. "We need to be quiet but for sure, it would nice to come home to Paris no? Long time no see."
