27-year-old Italian, Edoardo Affini was right in the mix in the bunch sprint finale to stage 1 of the Vuelta a Burgos. Although he wasn't able to take the win, finishing third is a good result for someone not widely regarded as a sprinter.
"The guys did a good job putting me off at the front," the former Tour of Britain and Tour of Norway stage winner recapped to his team, Jumbo-Visma's official website post-race. "Unfortunately I lost some spots at the roundabout and had to sprint from a bit too far. I did my best to get a good result and I think that's definitely succeeded."

As mentioned, Affini came home in third with only stage winner, UAE Team Emirates' Juan Sebastian Molano and runner-up, Movistar Team's Iván García Cortina able to beat him. Affini's main goal for the day though was to keep the team's GC hope, Primoz Roglic safe.
"The leading group was formed quite quickly and the guys from Team UAE then took control," he says, explaining it was a relatively relaxed day. "We tried to be alert all day for possible fan formation or other things. In the end, we all crossed the line safely."
