With the likes of David Gaudu and Valentin Madouas in their ranks, Groupama-FDJ go into the Amstel Gold Race quietly confident of upsetting the applecart and taking home the win.
Madouas secured himself the best Amstel Gold Race result of his career in 2019 when he finished in 8th position, but fully contested the final, race-winning sprint that was eventually won by Mathieu van der Poel. The Frenchman also comes into the race in solid form having most recently crossed the line in 4th at Paris-Camembert. Gaudu meanwhile has also shown good racing legs so far this season including finishing 2nd overall at Paris-Nice.
Supporting Groupama-FDJ's two French hopes are the two-time former Luxembourg national road race champion, Kevin Geniets, 20-year-old Frenchman Romain Grégoire, the experienced French duo of Rudy Molard and Quentin Pacher plus Dutchman Lars van den Berg. "We have a very strong team and we can compete with the best to try and get a good result. At the Amstel Gold Race we have to play our cards right and be tactical in order to hope to shine,” says Madouas.
