Alongside him is Arkéa - B&B Hotels' Jenthe Biermans, who
crashed down a ravine this Sunday but nevertheless managed to finish the stage within time limit and ahead of several riders. "Jenthe Biermans will not start the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia this Tuesday, following her fall two days ago. Good recovery Jenthe," the French team shared this morning.
The Belgian's withdraw from the race is completely understandable following a hellish situation that took place on stage 15. He reported that he crashed around 25 meters down a ravine and "the first moment I couldn't move anymore," he explained. "I continued to tumble after my fall and eventually came to a stop around a tree. I also lost my communication during the fall, so they couldn't find me right away."
However with some luck and team work from other managers and part of the race organization, he was found: "Four teams immediately started looking for me. I was at least 25-30 meters deep in a ravine. Gianni Meersman and some men from Intermarché - Wanty, among others, came immediately. I want to thank them."
Despite this, it is still possible that these men would not have to face a huge day in the mountains, as it is still not certain that the peloton will go through the first half of the stage due to bad weather.
