Stage 13 delivered the action it promised, but all-in-all, the podium positions have remained the same. This is the Vuelta a Espana's overall classification after tacklign the mythical and ultra-steep Alto de l'Angliru.
Jonas Vingegaard and João Almeida did the climb together from start to finish, but the Portuguese's stage win has seen him take 4 seconds off the lead of Jonas Vingegaard. The two will head into stage 14 with 46 seconds separating them, a lead that does not allow for Team Visma | Lease a Bike to relax with still many mountain stages left to race.
Tom Pidcock struggled through the final ascent but has nevertheless put in a solid performance to defend his third place on the road. He is now 2:18 minutes behind Vingegaard, and holds a gap of less than a minute over Jai Hindley who is back to his best level, and a Felix Gall who also loved the tough gradients of the Asturian climb.
As expected, both Giulio Pellizzari and Matthew Riccitello thrived in a day designed for the pure climbers, and the two - which are also battling for the youth classification - are now sixth and seventh in the GC, separated by 32 seconds. Giulio Cicccone and Torstein Traeen follow, whilst Sepp Kuss has climbed four positions to enter the Top10 - replacing his teammate Matteo Jorgenson.
