Although he has been trying tirelessly throughout the race, and with a performance for which he has to be more than satisfied, Juan Ayuso has not been able to cope with the domination of the titan Jonas Vingegaard in the Tirreno Adriatico 2024. In the sixth stage of the race, the Visma - Lease a Bike leader crossed the finish line alone to take his second consecutive victory and leave the fight for the maglia azzurra in the general classification settled.
Vingegaard was already 54 seconds ahead of Ayuso before the start of Saturday's queen stage of the Tirreno Adriatico. The UAE Team Emirates Spaniard, like the rest of the overall contenders such as Jai Hindley, Isaac del Toro... needed a miracle that didn't come. The two-time Tour de France winner attacked again at the end and, as a result, crossed the finish line 26 seconds ahead of Ayuso, 2nd, and Hindley, 3rd.
Ayuso's UAE Team Emirates teammate Isaac del Toro was also in the fight until the end, and although Vingegaard was unreachable, the young Mexican talent climbed to fourth place in the standings ahead of Ben O'Connor, who remains fifth, and Thymen Arensman, who dropped from fifth to seventh.
