Good news at Team dsm-firmenich PostNL as their British climber Max Poole is to return to competition next week after almost four months of absence. Poole broke his elbow in a Tirreno-Adriatico crash and was sidelined since then.
Fourth at last year's Tour de Romandie, Poole deserved himself a chance to collect experience at his Grand tour debut at the Vuelta a Espana last summer. This year, different goals were prepared for the 21-year-old, who was to ride Giro d'Italia as one of the team's protected riders. However his crash at Tirreno-Adriatico made his start impossible, forcing Poole to alter his plans.
Thus it will be at the Vuelta a Burgos where he returns to competition, partly with an eye on second start at the Vuelta a Espana later in August.
"With the Vuelta a Burgos we are preparing for the first of the Spanish races this month," coach Callum Ferguson explains. "The mountain top finish on the first stage and the tough time trial on the fourth stage are the two decisive stages for the GC. We are looking forward to seeing Max back after a long absence and we will see what he can do on the two most important GC days. In the meantime we are aiming for daily results, with Pavel Bittner as our sprinter on the two flatter stages."
