The location for the 2023
European championships has been decided, with the city of Drenthe, Netherlands, set to host the events on September 2023. After hosting cyclocross events, national championships and it's own road race, the region will be taking another step in it's exposure.
Drenthe is located in the northern part of the Netherlands and has recently gained a lot of popularity. On a country that, besides Limburg, is almost pan-flat, the climb known as the VAM-berg comes as a treat for the locals who find one of the most unique climbs in cycling, which is located on top of a garbage dump - turned into a recreational hill.
Wielerflits reports that the finale of all events may take place atop the climb itself, however with starting locations to be decided in the near future. The 2022 European championships will be taking place in Munich, Germany, from the 11th to the 21st of August.
Last year Sonny Colbrelli became European champion in Trento, beating Remco Evenepoel in the final sprint. The cities of Plumelec (France), Herning (Denmark), Glasgow (Scotland), Alkmaar (Netherlands) and Plouay (France) have also hosted the European championships, ever since it's first edition in 2016.
