Domenico Pozzovivo returns to competition at Giro dell'Emilia

Domenico Pozzovivo has fully recovered from a broken rib and collapsed lung that he suffered in the Vuelta a Castilla y Léon at the end of July. This enables the now 40-year-old Italian to make his return in the Giro dell'Emilia on Saturday.

Pozzovivo crashed on July 26 in the opening stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y Léon. Examination in the hospital showed that the little climber had suffered a broken rib and a small collapsed lung. The recovery from those injuries ultimately took more than two months.

On Saturday, Pozzovivo returns to the race as part of strong Israel-Premier Tech lineup, in the Giro dell'Emilia, alongside hill specialists Dylan Teuns, Michael Woods, Jakob Fuglsang and Stephen Williams. Pozzovivo is also on the provisional start list for Tre Valli Varesine (October 3).

After Pozzovivo's contract with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty was not extended at the end of last year, it took until March of this year before he signed a contract with Israel-Premier Tech. Since then he has finished sixth in the Coppi and Bartali Cycling Week, seventh in the Mont Ventoux Challenge and fifth in La Route d'Occitanie.
