Demi Vollering FINED €1,050 after World Championships win - New rainbow jersey winner use unauthorised bike position on her way to Montreal glory

Demi Vollering has been handed a fine to go with her new rainbow jersey after the Dutch rider took home her first world title in Montreal on Saturday, beating Tour de France rival Kasia Niewiadoma in a two-up sprint to the line.
After initially making her big attack with just under three laps to go, Vollering was caught inside the penultimate lap. Alongside Niewiadoma was Elisa Longho Borghini, with the italian making an aggressive move over the final passage of the finish.
But Vollering helped make the catch on the final lap and had enough to best the Polish and Italian riders in the finale, winning her first rainbow jersey at the age of 2019 after near-misses in recent seasons.
However, the UCI have confirmed that the Dutch rider has been handed a fine for assuming an unauthorised position on the bike. The fine costs 1,000 Swiss francs [just over 1,050 euro].

Vollering also sets a yellow card and UCI point deduction
She also received a yellow card and a deduction of 25 UCI points. Austrian rider Katharina Sadnik received the same penalty, ultimately finishing in 47th position. The UCI does not specify in the jury report when the riders were riding in the prohibited position.
The penalty does not change the result of the race and Vollering will wear the rainbow jersey for the coming year before next year's race.
After her victory, Vollering said: "I think I can still not believe it. Like I said before, I truly before, I had this dream in my heart for a reason. i worked so hard towards this goal, it takes guts to truly believe in it with your whole heart and to gather a team around you with such strong girls.

"They all sacrificed for you, maybe they also have a chance and go for it. But only for you, it's a lot to ask for them, but I'm so proud for every rider from the team, we took the race into our hands, whole race in the front, then Puck did an amazing leadout and I could just not finish the job."
But the road into the finish line was not smooth sailing. Elisa Longo Borghini and Katarzyna Niewiadoma united on several occasions and managed to reel her back in still far from the finish.
"There were so many moments I thought I went too early, it stayed so close the whole time, I had to turn around and look back because I was like 'I feel like they're almost in my wheel already'. Then it was 20 seconds, 22, 15... At one point they came back and I was like 'oh shit', but I had to believe in it," Vollering continued. "I just dared and tried again, and never game up at the finish line".

- Oh really, Jonas was blasted by a former Danish cyclist? He deserves to be blasted.... Pogi's injuries were bigger and happened later than those of Jonas, but we can already see Pogi training on the road with a smile on his face. Where is Jonas??? I guess he's in his "rabbit hole"... with Trine digging it deeper and deeper. Please, never again compare Pogi to Jonas... NEVER !!! If all cyclists were like Jonas, no one would watch cycling. Having no heart, no passion, and no interest, describes Jonas in a state of emotional numbness, detachment, and an inability to care about or enjoy his bike racing.
