UAE and Visma sign Gautherat and Donovan
Lidl-Trek have been the major player in the market this past week, and that might continue being the case in future weeks. In the men's team, the German squad have confirmed the addition of Jordi Meeus.
The Belgian sprinter, former winner on the Champs-Élysées, is departing Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe and joining the likes of Jonathan Milan and Mads Pedersen who currently lead the team's sprint ranks.
In the women's team, there has been the confirmation of Katarzyna Niewiadoma's signing. Second at the Tour de France Femmes and at the recent World Championships behind Demi Vollering, the Mont Ventoux winner will become the team's new leader.
UAE Team Emirates - XRG have confirmed the long-rumoured move of Decathlon CMA CGM Team's Pierre Gautherat, a three-year deal which sees the Frenchman follow in the footsteps of his former teammate Benoît Cosnefroy.
Team Visma | Lease a Bike in the meantime have also announced the signing of Pinarello - Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team's Mark Donovan. The 27-year old's move is perhaps one of the most surprising of the winter.
XDS Astana Team have signed Tommaso Dati whilst Groupama - FDJ have hired Giovanni Lonardi, both Italian sprinters will be making their World Tour debut.
Katarzyna Niewiadoma's move to Lidl-Trek may be the highest-profile transfer of this winter in the women's peloton
Filippo Ganna to leave INEOS?
There has been a bombshell rumour that has made the light of day this Saturday morning: Filippo Ganna may break his contract with Netcompany INEOS and join Lidl-Trek. This has been reported by
Gazzetta dello Sport.
The two-time time trial world champion and eight-time Giro d'Italia stage winner has been part of the British team since 2019 and has not only become the team's spearhead time trialist, but also classics leader.
Ganna continues to be one of the world's best and most versatile riders, having finished second at Milano-Sanremo twice, won in the cobbled classics, developed his sprinting abilities - whilst also currently holding cycling's Hour Record, set back in 2022.
The big teams continue to make meaningful moves in the market and Team Visma | Lease a Bike continue to hunt for their top talents in the development ranks. According to
DirectVeló, Steff van Kerckhove was set to race for the team's under-23 structure next year, but Visma has swooped in to hire him.
The 18-year old Belgian is one of the most prominent junior riders currently and has won several of the most prestigious races in the category this year so far.
Primoz Roglic of Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe is leaving the team at the end of the season but his future is still unclear. One of the highest-level figures without a clear path as we enter October, but one team appears to be ahead of the competition.
Wielerflits have reported that Roglic may be very close to signing with Tudor Pro Cycling Team, hence departing the World Tour after 10 years. This weekend's European Championships, in which he is one of the favourites, could change things however.
Paul Seixas close to renewing with Decathlon
Lastly Paul Seixas' future is also to be decided on soon. The Frenchman is currently signed to Decathlon CMA CGM Team all the way until the end of 2027, but most top teams have manifested their interest over potentially signing the young super-talent who just turned 20.
Seixas has,
according to Daniel Benson, received a new proposal from Decathlon. Several teams, most notably Team Visma | Lease a Bike, are still hot on the climber's heels but there are strong arguments for Decathlon's potential success in the rider that is their present and potentially the team's future as well.
