Covid-19 forces Adam Yates out of Tour de Suisse

INEOS Grenadiers have announce this morning the abandon of Adam Yates on the Tour de Suisse, after the Briton tested positive for Covid-19.

The news comes just hours after Jumbo-Visma withdrew from the race due to a case inside the team, and also Gino Mäder who abandoned due to heat issues and gastrointestinal problems. Yates' abandon takes the tally up to 13 riders which won't start the fifth stage of the race.

After Daniel Martínez' issues on the opening day loosing time, Yates had been hinted as the leader of the lineup for the race, alongside Geraint Thomas who's sitting high in the overall classification. Yates himself was sitting tenth this morning and within range of getting the overall win, but now his concern will be on recovering in time for the Tour de France where he'll carry some of the responsibilities for INEOS.
