In the first Monument of his career, the continually impressive
Thibau Nys has claimed a very solid 5th placed finish at
Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2025. Afterwards, the Belgian revealed his pride at the result and his overall performance.
“This means a lot to me. I’m feeling so many emotions right now," began the 22-year-old Belgian's assessment in his post-race interview at the finish line, seemingly more than content with a top-5 finish on debut. "On La Redoute, I felt like I still had something left in the tank - I felt incredibly strong - but then I hit a massive dip, almost cramping. To still be able to sprint for fifth place after that is incredible.”
In the end, it was the all-conquering
Tadej Pogacar that powered to the win in Liege, attacking on the aforementioned La Redoute and soloing all the way to the finish line for a 9th Monument of his career. Although Nys had said he wasn't scared of the Slovenian pre-race, speaking after the Belgian had changed tune a little, admitting it will tough for him to ever win in Liege if Pogacar continues at this level.
“Could I ever win this race? I don’t know. With someone like Tadej on the start line, it’s incredibly tough," answers Nys when asked about future editions of the Ardennes Monument. "But the course suits me well. We’ll see.”
