Cofidis rider Ludovic Robeet was admitted to hospital last week after suffering a stroke, just hours before he was due to board a flight to Canada for the World Tour races in Québec and Montréal. The news was first reported by Le Soir and later confirmed by Belgian press agency Belga.
The 31-year-old Belgian was rushed to the Erasmus Hospital in Brussels, where he is currently receiving treatment. While specific details regarding his condition have yet to be disclosed, Cofidis has issued a reassuring statement indicating that Robeet’s health is showing signs of improvement.
Speaking to DH Cyclisme, Cofidis’s sporting director Thierry Marichal provided a cautiously optimistic update: “The news about his health is positive and encouraging.” The French squad also shared a message of support via social media on Friday, with several of Robeet’s teammates appearing in a video to wish him a full and swift recovery.
Robeet, now in his second season with Cofidis, has long been known for his aggressive racing style and willingness to animate even the toughest of stages. A familiar figure in long-range breakaways, he has earned a reputation as a tireless workhorse and occasional race-winner. His most notable victories include a stage win at the 2019 Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali and a memorable solo triumph at Nokere Koerse in 2021 — two performances that showcased both his tactical nous and physical grit.
Having joined Cofidis in 2024 after several seasons with Bingoal WB, Robeet signed a long-term contract that sees him tied to the French team through to the end of 2027. His absence from the Canadian World Tour double-header was a clear blow to Cofidis, particularly given the nature of those races, which often reward riders willing to gamble from distance.
Beyond his palmarès, Robeet is widely respected within the peloton for his tenacity and professionalism. While his racing return remains uncertain, the early signs suggest a positive trajectory — welcome news for a rider whose fighting spirit has always defined his career.
From all associated with CyclingUpToDate.com, we wish Ludovic Robeet the best in his recovery.
