Carlos Canal, Movistar Team's second signing for 2024

Movistar Team has taken an important step in its restructuring process and preparation for next season by securing the services of Carlos Canal. The young Galician cyclist, born in Xinzo de Limia, Ourense, in 2001, is one of the most exciting promises of Spanish cycling and joins the ranks of Movistar Team for the next two campaigns, covering the years 2024 and 2025.

Carlos Canal, known for his versatility and ability to perform on a variety of terrains, will jump to the WorldTour in an exciting move that will see him join the Movistar set up.

The young Galician has proven to be a solid cyclist in difficult terrain, standing out as a quality rider and time trialist, in addition to possessing an explosiveness that he has inherited from his experience in cyclo-cross, where he won the Spanish junior champion title on two occasions.

Carlos Canal comes to Movistar Team after a great end to the season in 2023. His recent achievements include an impressive 11th place at the U23 World Championship in Glasgow, as well as outstanding performances at the Vueltas a Castilla y León and Burgos. He also came close to victory at the Tour de Langkawi, securing third and fourth place in two stages.

The young Galician talent has expressed his enthusiasm to join Movistar Team, a team of reference in Spain and internationally. In his own words, "Landing in Movistar Team is a dream come true. It is a team of reference in Spain and internationally, and moving to the top category with them is the perfect combination. A young rider like me dreams of being in the Spanish team par excellence, a place where so many great riders have passed through."

Carlos Canal has high expectations for his future with the team, and is willing to work hard and put his best effort at the team's disposal. He also has his sights set on the classics, where he hopes to shine next season.

Despite a crash in Malaysia at the close of the 2023 season, Canal is satisfied with his performance and confident in his growth as a cyclist. In his words, "By 2024 I hope to make another leap in quality and show everything I can achieve on the road."
