Caleb Ewan aims for Vuelta after victory in Castilla y Leon: "I won the first big victory of my career here and hopefully I will be back in Spain in a few weeks"

Caleb Ewan took his second victory of this season this Tuesday at Vuelta a Castilla y Leon (1.1). Given the relatively easy parcours of this race, the Jayco AlUla sprinter entered the race as the big favourite and was able to deliver in a sprint against Davide Cimolai and Jenthe Biermans.

The Australian looked back on his race at an interview for the local TV: "On paper, it was an easy event but when you're on the race it's different, it was super hot. The sprint wasn't easy either, it was a bit uphill which suits me very well. My team did a great job. We controlled the race from the start and I'm happy to be able to do a good sprint."

Ewan's team definitely had higher expectations of the man once regarded as the fastest man of the peloton, but with this victory, the hopes are again high towards the last third of the season. With plenty sprint opportunities in coming months, he'll hopefully add to his Tour of Oman stage win and latest one from Castilla y Leon. Ideally, Ewan would like to prove his fast legs at the last grand tour of this year. After all, he'd be returning to the race where the Australian took his first grand tour victory back in 2015.

"Before this race it had been a long time since I had raced in Spain and I am happy to be back. I am very happy to win this race today. It is special to be here, La Vuelta is my favourite grand tour, it is here that I won the first big victory of my career so it is special to race here and hopefully I will be back in Spain in a few weeks," he confirms his ambitions for August.
