Bruno Armirail moves from Groupama-FDJ to Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team

Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team is the new name of the French structure into 2024 and it's introduced many of it's signings today. Bruno Armirail is one of the new riders coming in.

Armirail comes in alongside the likes of Sam Bennett and Victor Lafay, so relatively in the shadow, but is a surprising move. Armirail turned pro and grew in Groupama - FDJ and has his best season to date this year. The 28-year old led the Giro d'Italia for two days, after being part of a successful breakaway on stage 14. He also won a stage at the Tour Poitou Charentes and was part of the winning team at the European Mixed Relay TTT Championships.

Armirail comes in as a rouleur and stage hunter for the French team, a rider suited to the type of races that it hunts throughout the season in the French cup. However he is a very valuable rider to have, as he can climb quite well and support the likes of Felix Gall and Ben O'Connor, but his powerhouse status also allows him to be a possible option to support Sam Bennett in the sprints.

The Frenchman was signed on a two-year contract as did the other big name signings. This confirms further the transition that Groupama-FDJ is undergoing, having this season also lost Thibaut Pinot and Arnaud Démare - two other riders who had spent their whole careers in the team.
