Breaking: African champion Henok Mulubrhan to race Giro d'Italia after sudden mid-season transfer

After a very successful start to the season, 22-year Eritrean Henok Mulubrhan will be joining a Pro Team on the 1st of April and will set his sights on the Giro d'Italia.

After an incredible start to the season from Biniam Girmay over in Europe where he's won Trofeo Alcúdia and thrived in the cobbled classics in which he's won Gent-Wevelgem, Eritrea took another very important win as Mulubrhan won the African continental championships, beating former pro rider Reinardt Janse van Rensburg in a sprint. He's also finished second in the continental time-trial championships, and won the team time-trial title for Eritrea.

After spending the last two seasons in the Qhubeka development team, he has moved to German-based Bike Aid at the start of his season where, with the team's colours, he finished sixth at the Tour of Antalya and fifth at the Tour of Rwanda.

It is not yet public which team Mulubrhan will be joining, however Bike Aid has said he will "join a UCI Pro team from April 1st 2022 to set his sights on the Giro".
