Ben Turner has been crowned the winner of stage 4 of this
Vuelta a Espana. The INEOS Grenadiers had shown immense quality as a sprinter over this season, but hadn't shown good form yet in this race, and so it came as a big surprise when he was able to take the win in a sprint where Jasper Philipsen and Mads Pedersen was present.
The fourth day of racing saw the peloton start in Italy and head towards France, a day with a hilly start but one that was not made difficult. Sean Quinn, Louis Vervaeke, Joel Nicolau, Kamiel Bonneau and Mario Aparicio formed the day's breakaway. Later on, Bruno Armirail also gave his best to try and surprise.
It was a rather uneventful day in the peloton with the riders heading towards a certain bunch sprint, albeit an uphill one. Alpecin-Deceuninck nailed the leadout to perfection whilst Mads Pedersen, whose Lidl-Trek had worked all day long for, was nowhere to be seen in the first positions.
Edward Planckaert launched Jasper Philipsen but the truth is Planckaert looked the strongest rider in the sprint, with his leader barely able to get off his wheel. Ben Turner was the only rider to actually be able to go through into the front with speed, and took an impressive maiden Grand Tour win, followed by Philipsen and Planckaert.
