Quinten Hermans won the queen stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour as the hilly route put race leader Mads Pedersen under difficulties. Whilst the Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux rider took the stage win, Mauro Schmid took over the race lead.
The queen stage of the race was heavily attacked, and a group of six riders eventually went off the front inside the final 50 kilometers. There wasn't enough firepower and collaboration in the peloton to reel it back, so a group containing Mauro Schmid, Tim Wellens, Victor Campenaerts, Lorenzo Rota, Quinten Hermans and Dries de Bondt went to fight for the stage win.
The group eventually collaborated until the finale, with a sprint deciding the outcome. Quinten Hermans took the stage win, finishing in front of Mauro Schmid and Tim Wellens. Schmid took hold of the general classification heading into the final day.
