"At Movistar he did everything alone" - Steven Kruijswijk on 'special' Matteo Jorgenson's brilliant start to Visma career

For the first time since joining Team Visma | Lease a Bike, Matteo Jorgenson added a victory to his palmares this Sunday, securing the overall win at Paris-Nice.

Impressive throughout the week at the 'Race to the Sun', Jorgenson came home second on the final stage behind Remco Evenepoel, enough for the American to grab the Maillot Jaune from his compatriot, Brandon McNulty on the very last day.

After his GC win at the Tour of Oman in 2023, this marks a second classification win in the career of the 24-year-old although he has seemingly stepped up a level since his move to Team Visma | Lease a Bike. "We have made very good purchases this year," reflects team stalwart, Steven Kruijswijk post-race. "And we have already seen how strong the team is in the classics!"

"Matteo is a very young boy, but very professional. At Movistar, he did everything alone and on his own but there was a very big engine in him," the experienced Dutchman concludes. "It is special that he rides from the front on the cobblestones in the classics and then wins Paris-Nice, against Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic... That shows how good he is."
