Astana Qazaqstan Team confirm new management staff to save the team from relegation in 2025: “Our team will welcome three new directors”

Despite the history making year for Mark Cavendish, Astana Qazaqstan
Team had a very difficult 2024, and will need a much strong year next season to
secure their WorldTour status. In a new press release, the team confirm three
new sports directors that will hope to raise the level next year.
General manager Alexandr Vinokurov said, “Alongside the
Performance Group, which we have significantly strengthened, changes will also
affect the Sports Directors in the 2025 season. Our team will welcome
three new directors.
“We know Lorenzo Lapage very well, he is an experienced and
responsible Sports Director with an excellent vision of the race, as well as a
great administrator and team coordinator off the bike.”
But Lapage isn’t the only new member of staff being added to
the team, as Vinokurov confirmed, “We have two young Sports Directors: Peter
Kennaugh and Dario Cataldo. Both are former professional riders with a
fresh perspective on modern cycling.
“Peter Kennaugh already has some experience as a Sports
Director, while Dario Cataldo is transitioning directly from being a rider to
this new role.
"That said, he knows our team very well, having spent
several years with us, so he will be able to contribute not only to Astana
Qazaqstan Team but also to our Development Team in his work with the riders.”

The Giro is not the Tour and doesn’t command the same interest or attract the same “elite” (those willing to pay to be a part of something they consider has ego boosting potential). Roadside viewing will always largely remain free for everyone outside circuits. Introduction of a symbolic entrance to mountain climbs is worthy of exploration. Asking 1-2€ isn’t going to repulse real fans (most will spend 50-100€ on their outing that day all things included) but will prevent a portion of the total knobhead thrillseekers who will join in any large gathering as long as it’s free, just because they’re attracted to crowds, without which it it difficult for them to work up their anti-social behaviour.Jumpyjohn07-11-2026

- any rider less than 25 whether they are really ready for the position of leadership of GT is probably not the case. I think Pogi himself suffered when he was defeated by Jonas in the TDF twice.
