Far from stopping there, Seixas confirmed his form a few days later at the Faun-Ardeche Classic. There, he claimed a commanding victory after launching an attack 40 kilometres from the finish that left a rider of Matteo Jorgenson’s level without an answer. The Frenchman crossed the line alone after a display that confirmed what had happened in the Algarve had not been a coincidence.
His most recent major performance came at Strade Bianche, where he again faced the best riders in the world. On that occasion, the winner was Tadej Pogacar, but Seixas was the only rider able to hold the Slovenian’s initial attack for more than a minute. Although he eventually lost contact, he remained the most active chaser for the rest of the race and ultimately finished second after beating Isaac del Toro on the final climb to Santa Caterina, despite the Mexican not contributing to the pursuit.
In this context, and with growing rumours about interest from UAE Team Emirates in securing his services despite the fact he is contracted to Decathlon CMA CGM until 2027, France is talking about little else. The country is once again beginning to dream of having a rider capable of fighting for the Tour de France, something that has not happened for almost four decades. Although nobody expects him to win it already this year, more and more voices believe he should make his debut in the Grande Boucle this very season. Here are three reasons why his presence in the race would make sense.
Paul Seixas at the 2026 Strade Bianche
1. The showcase Decathlon and CMA CGM need
The first reason relates directly to his team. Decathlon and CMA CGM are two of the most powerful companies in France, and their investment in cycling is also about visibility and positioning within the sport. Having the greatest emerging talent in French cycling in their ranks is an opportunity they can hardly afford to miss.
The Tour de France is by far the biggest showcase in world cycling. For a French sponsor, its impact is even greater. Not taking advantage of that stage to present a rider generating such excitement in the country would be a missed opportunity. Seixas’s presence in the race would place the team at the centre of the sporting conversation for three weeks.
2. Performances that suggest a podium challenge
The second reason is purely sporting. If one analyses the results Seixas has achieved at the start of the season, there are no objective reasons to believe he could not compete at the highest level in the Tour de France. His performances against top riders show that he is already capable of measuring himself against the best.
At the Volta ao Algarve, he beat riders such as Ayuso and Almeida in a high-mountain sprint and finished second overall. At the Faun-Ardeche Classic, he won with a long-range attack that dropped a rider of Jorgenson’s level.
And at Strade Bianche, he was the only rider able to resist Pogacar’s opening attack for more than a minute before eventually finishing second after beating Del Toro on the final climb. With that level on display, it is not unreasonable to think he could fight for the podium against riders such as Remco Evenepoel, Florian Lipowitz or Ayuso himself.
3. The Tour de France’s own interest
The third reason relates to the race itself. The Tour de France has always been an event that combines sporting competition with media narrative and public interest. The emergence of a French talent at this level is something the organisers cannot ignore.
Its organiser, ASO, knows perfectly well the impact of having the sensation of the season on the start line of the world’s biggest race. The anticipation surrounding Seixas in France is enormous, and his presence would only increase media attention and public interest. For that reason, it would not be surprising if the organisers themselves were keen to see the young rider in the peloton when the next edition of the Tour begins.
