Alberto Contador has given his prediction for stage 12 of the
Giro d'Italia. The Spaniard is quite clear that there will be (not easily) a breakaway from which the winner of the day will emerge.
"A new opportunity for the breakaway. The first part, as you leave Bra, is all uphill kilometers. There's going to be a fierce fight for the breakaway. It's a day that has a breakaway's name as the winner," he told Eurosport.
The former winner of the Corsa Rosa describes in detail the route of a stage that has a hard start, a flatter intermediate part, a hard second pass in the second part and a downhill and flat finish to the finish:
"After the first steep part, there will be an intermediate part of about 75 kilometers of false flat and they will reach a second category pass, but of the Giro, we are talking about 10 kilometers at 7%, the last 5 above 8% average gradient and it is crowned 28 km from Rivoli. I think it's a stage that is very difficult for the sprinters to pass and the escapees will have a lot of chances to succeed.
