After a disastrous opening stage,
UAE Team Emirates - XRG leader Joao Almeida needs something big to get back into general classification contention at the 2025
Tour de Suisse. Although the 6 seconds gained on stage 3 won't make a massive difference, it's a start at least.
"It was super fast today. Was quite hard and I decided to give it a try,"
the Portuguese star told Cycling Pro Net in his post-stage interview afterwards. "I guess six seconds in three minutes is not much, but yeah, I gave my best. The team worked really good. So yeah, one less day in the books."
In the end though, it was ultimately second place for Almeida as
Quinn Simmons held on for a solo stage win from the breakaway. "I think it was a good moment when I went. They kind of slowed a little bit — slowed a little bit. So was like less than one kilometre to the finish, so was nothing crazy," Almeida details of the final sprint. "Disappointed a bit that there was still Quinn Simmons, because he would have won the sprint of the [GC guys]. Yeah, it is what it is," Almeida concludes his post-stage analysis.
