Many argue that Jasper Philipsen is already in the perfect team, where there is full focus on himself for the sprints and he gets enough freedom in the classics to win monuments despite the presence of Mathieu van der Poel. However with his contract ending in 2024, several teams are in the running together with Alpecin-Deceuninck.
"We need more time. Many teams, many big teams, are interested in him but we’ll only decide after Roubaix," Philipsen's agent Alex Carrera said in words to GCN. "For now, he just wanted to focus on his racing. He has many goals in the next two weeks.” And racing indeed has been quite successful, as Philipsen is just off the back of a Milano-Sanremo triumph, and is a key part of Alpecin's tactics for the spring classics. Last year he was second at Paris-Roubaix and he may try to replicate that later on.
Whilst his leadout has not always been the best, Philipsen is a sprinter who has always managed to find his own position in the peloton quite successfully; and last year teaming up with Mathieu van der Poel in the sprints at the Tour de France saw unprecedented success with several wins and a green jersey. It's hard to argue any team where he'd fit best, but there is no certainty that he'll stay with the Belgian outfit into the next season.
GCN report that his former team UAE Team Emirates, BORA - hansgrohe, EF Education-EasyPost and Tudor Pro Cycling Team are all in contact and interested in signing the Belgian sprinter, who wants a long-term contract regardless of which team he chooses.
Any team but UAE. They have too many top riders already. Oil money will ruin cycling just has it has done football.
And golf with F1, boxing already suffering and soon cricket. Also, let’s not forget their more subtle ways in, horseracing, betting companies, etc. And basketball is making efforts to be inviting to them. But spectators and fans still remain oblivious to all this, as long as they get entertained they’ll accept it. The weirdest thing though is, everyone moans about the price of fuel but not to those that set and manipulate the prices.
