The 2024 Giro d'Italia begins to take serious shape and quite a few details are already known. The route will officially be announced on the 13th of October and so only the final touches remain for race organizers. It is virtually confirmed that stage 2 will have a summit finish up Monte Oropa.
This is one of the most iconic climbs in Italy and most recently had a very iconic moment in modern Giro history when Tom Dumoulin soared to victory in 2017. The climb has also been used in Gran Piemonte, the Italian region will host the first three stages of the race.
The opening day of the Giro should be quite hilly and will be difficult - possibly already a treacherous day for the overall classification, it will end in Torino. If not however, stage 2 will certainly already create important gaps with the 11.8 kilometer-long at 6% which ends besides the sanctuary and a beautiful cobbled road.
