Remco Evenepoel did not want to say much about his future before the start of Il Lombardia, but after the finish of the Italian classic he is clear: the Belgian will also race for Soudal Quick-Step next season.
At the start of the final Monument of 2023, Evenepoel only wanted to talk about the race itself. There was a lot of uncertainty for a long time about his future, which was seen with either Soudal Quick-Step, Jumbo-Visma or INEOS Grenadiers. Now, however, the 23-year-old rider has put an end to all rumors. "I will stay anyway, because the team will continue," he said in an interview with Sporza and VTM.
"I am very happy here. It was just a few difficult moments, but next year we'll go for it. We will try to build and perform in the races when we have to. I have no reason to be dissatisfied here. We are going to get the most out of it," Evenepoel is clear.
The merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal Quick-Step seemed like it would happen for a long time, but it eventually collapsed. There was particular dissatisfaction among some partners and sponsors of the teams about the merger of the two top teams. Patrick Lefevere, the team manager of Soudal Quick-Step, and financier Zdenek Bakala would now continue together until the end of 2025.
