The route for the 2023 edition of the
Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var has been revealed this Tuesday and the organizers have planned three days of racing which should be exciting. The race will take place between the 17th and 19th of February.
Alongside the Etoile de Bessèges and the Tour de la Provence, the French race is part of a string of early-season stage-races where many riders will be looking to prime their form into the season, having some explosive racing in a region that regularly features good weather. The former Tour du Haut Var will see three stages in 2023, with the opening day suited to the sprinters between Saint-Raphäel and Ramatuelle.
The second stage will be raced between Mandelieu La Napouile and Antibes (Azur Arena) and it will be a mixed day, where a sprint is expected, however the final half of the day features quite a lot of hilly terrain where the field can be thinned. However the queen stage will take place in the final day with a depart in Villegrance-Sur-Mer and a quick ride up the Col d'Éze, however the stage will be decided in Vence with a hilltop finish that should be less suited to the climbers than in 2022.
This year it was Nairo Quintana who took the overall win, raiding the race on the final day and removing the yellow jersey from Tim Wellens' shoulders who had beat the Colombian on stage two. Gianluca Brambilla and Thibau Pinot are amongst the recent winners of the French race.
