Every week we show you the points that the top riders and teams have scored during the 2024 season, but the main reason why this is important is because of the 2023-2025 cycle. The Top18 scoring teams will be attributed a World Tour license from 2026 onwards and currently, there is still a big battle at the bottom of the standings for these key positions.
In the statistics shared by
Raúl Banqueri, it is possible to see that the 2024 season saw
UAE Team Emirates blast off the front of the rankings after a 2023 where they were head-to-head with Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Soudal - Quick-Step and INEOS Grenadiers are third and fourth, however very distant from the top two teams.
*Note, you can see the full rankings and in Raúl's post below.
Currently, Lotto Dstny and Israel - Premier Tech - who were relegated in the last cycle - are the strongest ProTeams. They sit 9th and 13th respectively, and both look very safe in their current positions to ascend back to World Tour, which means two teams will go down. Towards the bottom of the rankings we have the most interesting battles. Movistar Team, Team Jayco AlUla and Intermarché - Wanty are 14th, 15th and 16th... And then there is a 1300-difference to 17th spot Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL who is in the fight. Only 300 points behind is Cofidis in the last position for the World Tour spot.
Cofidis have 16.025 points and in 19th spot is Arkéa - B&B Hotels with 14.494 points. The French team is still within striking range but it will need a strong 2025 season to be able to climb back into the World Tour spots. Astana are 2400 points behind Arkéa - in 21st spot - and it can be virtually given that they will lose their World Tour license, even though a new Chinese sponsor is allowing big signings including the already confirmed Alberto Bettiol, Diego Ulissi and Wout Poels - with more eexpected.
However between them is
Uno-X Mobility in 20th position, only 300 points behind Arkéa. The Norwegian team is rising up the ranks with serious speed mostly over the past month after Magnus Cort Nielsen's (Arctic Race of Norway win, second at Tour of Denmark, third at Bretagne Classic) and Tobias Johannessen's (third at Deutschland Tour) results.
Both Lotto Dstny and Israel - Premier Tech have scored big this season however, and so the wildcards for all World Tour races should still go to these two teams; whilst Uno-X should receive the wildcard for the World Tour one-day races.
