The Tour de l'Avenir, or as some may know it the under-23 Tour de France, has revealed yesterday it's route for the 2022 edition and it includes stages for all kinds of riders throughout it's 10 days of racing.
As tradition dictates the race will make a west to east traverse through France from the 18th to 28th of August and it will have it's Grand Depart in La Roche Sur Yon with a 4 kilometer team time-trial. On stage five the peloton will once again have a team time-trial to the surprise of many, this time with 28 kilometers of distance. Inbetween, stage finales at La Roche sur Yon Agglomération, Civray, La Trimouille and Chaillac expected to give opportunities for the sprinters and rouleurs to succeed.
Stage six is a hilly day to Oyonnax where the Tour de France has had a stage finish in 2014, and the final three stages see the rider head into the Alps. Stage 7 seems a summit finish in Saint François Longchamp, stage 8 takes the riders through the Col de la Madeleine/La Toussuire combination, and the final day of racing sees the peloton go up and down the Col de l'Iseran for a race finale in Villaroger.
The race's winner last year was Norwegian Tobias Johannessen and the race regularly brings the spotlight to some of the riders that thrive in the Elite peloton few years after, with the list of recent winners including the likes of Tadej Pogacar, Egan Bernal, Nairo Quintana, Miguel Ángel López and many more.
