2 Uno-X riders taken to hospital following carbon monoxide poisoning - "When he entered the room he found me almost unconscious"

Uno-X Pro Cycling team have hosted a training camp in December and had two of their riders being taken to a hospital in Copenhagen for several days, but not because of a cycling-related incident. Anders Johannessen and Jonas Hvideberg were victims of carbon monoxide poisoning following a long session of kart racing.

“I was very happy about it, for me going karting is a very fun thing. So I remained in the room where the racing takes place for almost 4 hours and I never went out, to take a break or take a breath of fresh air," Anders Johannessen told TV2. "Moreover, we are both competitive and we immediately saw that we had the best lap times; so we stayed in the karts longer than the others. At the end of the three and a half hours, those who were bored left, but the most enthusiastic, including the two of us, had extra time to go around again."

Hvideberg, a signing from Team DSM, had a rough start to his stint with the Norwegian team, as he explains the symptoms felt. "During the journey back to the hotel where we were staying I started to feel that something was wrong. I felt dizzy and my head was weighing on me. So I went to bed, but as the minutes passed I continued to feel worse. I found myself lying in a fetal position and with a huge headache," he tells.

However back at the hotel, both experienced severe physical complications and might have been saved by quick reaction to alert the team staff. Both Johannessen and new signing Hvideberg suffered from headaches, dizziness and vomitting. “I sent a message to the team doctor, who when he entered the room he found me almost unconscious," Johannessen reveals. "Initially the doctors told us we would have to stay there for a week, but luckily we got through in less time. At the moment we have not noticed any consequences of that what happened, after a couple of days we were already fine"
