Lorena Wiebes must've be saddened when she learnt that neither of this year's road Championships fit her ridertype and thus the fastest woman in peloton will have to make a do with "just" the Dutch national champion's tricolor. Regardless, she might hold onto two rainbow jerseys by the end of this month!
But Wiebes was still looking to enlargen her collection of special jerseys which led her steps to the Gravel
World Championships where, after some controversy, the Dutchwoman dominated a reduced sprint to secure this off-road rainbow jersey. However that's not a first rainbow jersey for Wiebes!
Unlike her teammate Lotte Kopecky, Wiebes is not celebrated as a world-class track cyclist with massive palmares. But with her excellent speed, the 26-year-old eventually found her path to the indoor discipline last season, finishing 2nd in Scratch Race in her European Championships debut. And her first start at
World Championships went even better when Wiebes took the Scratch rainbow stripes in front of Jennifer Valente and Ally Wollaston.
