- Evenepoel is 4 cm shorter than Vingegaard, 5 cm shorter than Pogačar, 10 cm shorter than Lipowitz and 15 cm shorter than Seixas, so definitely on the shorter side.
But genetics are more important, and even by cutting Evenepoel wouldn't suddenly be a top tier climber. He'd likely lose too much muscle.
Climbers are good climbers because they are efficient
- it worked quite well for PFP last year going into the TdF Femmes.
Besides, I think Remco is a bit weak mentally and definitely over emotional. it would be likely that if he had a bad prep race it would cloud his TdF. It is probably better for him to go in fresh. Look at UAE tour this year. He was flying early season, then bad stage, and he goes into a funk until Amstel.
and what Remco really needs to win stages as weight loss. he is the same height as JV, but JV looked much smaller, more like a true climber, in his Giro d’Italia win.
this could be the best approach for him.
- No one knows how to do this better than PL: “ these moves create tension, insecurity, and distractions within a roster that should be fully focused on preparing the biggest race of the year”
Let’s start with the treatment of JA as a starting point. talk about taking away focus and motivation.
I will say this. PL has built some powerhouse teams, he knows cycling and knows how to build a winner. He knows how to mesh the pieces together. but far too often it happened in spite of himself all the same.
- Magnier and Merlier are different generations, and there are 3 GTs for 2 sprinters. They have different profiles too Magnier is a bit more of a classics all rounder while Merlier is almost a flat stage dedicated sprinter. There won’t be issues. with Magnier’s young age he will be willing to be second to Merlier.
- Intensity levels of training vs racing vary by race and the training regimen of a team, but for teams like UAE, training sessions often match, or even exceed, the demands of a race. An example of this was seen in the 2025 UAE Tour, where the stages were so undemanding for Tadej, that he was forced to attack the peloton just to maintain the high level of fitness he had built during his training.
- Soudal are more likely to have internal tensions between Magnier and Merlier than Red Bull with Lipowitz and Evenepoel. We saw in Catalunya that they get along well.
Meanwhile, Lidl-Trek is renowned for having a human atmosphere where everyone is happy.
Lefevere is just salty
- I agree, and it's all the more strange since Thomas spent nearly all his racing years in a team renowned for innovation.
- Does anyone go as hard in training as in a race. ? I think Remcos achilles heel will be the high mountains. I hope he does better as it will make a more exciting contest.
- “Such a dramatic game of musical chairs one month before the Tour de France,” he wrote with evident disbelief. In his view, these moves create tension, insecurity, and distractions within a roster that should be fully focused on preparing the biggest race of the year" - very true! tho the point & value of cash does nothing for the value of ambiance of a team..
- Except that there are climbs which are too hard for both men and women. I long for the day when Pozza San Glisente can be fixed up and used
