- If you pick the right years
1948 43,5km/h
1964 45,1km/h
If you look at every year you see the progression used to be in steps and became more rare and gradual, there still seem to be steps sometimes but pretty small. The two biggest influences are 1. how the race evolves on the day and 2. wind direction. It seems high speed is now more consistent, probably because the way of racing has focused towards that, gone are the days of the leisurely 30km/h outing in preparation for a few hundred meters of sprinting towards the end.
- Not too fast. An hour faster than 40 years ago with far better surfaces, equipment and nutrition plus it was dry and had the wind behind a lot of the time.
- I’m pretty sure they have their priorities in a good order and they both seem to be the opposite of those who try to dictate their beliefs onto others,
- Anything else would be discriminatory towards certain types of riders.
- I like the idea of a variety of profiles over the years, giving any kind of rider a chance.
- absolutely! Emotional "wounds" are the most complicated and difficult to heal (if they heal at all). I hope these are journalistic exaggerations and none of the Visma leaders suffer this kind of emotional wounds.
- If you have a crash or something fearful scary then facing that at a later time helps you overcome it lets not forget Jonas V didn't get up off the ground at Itzulia so has mental scars to surmount not only physical. To pick yourself up is ½ way to healing and getting over the problem!
- Remco did bite the dust, hard. He has credited his wife with helping him to come back from that.
- Girmay is proof the UCI Rider rankings mean basically nothing on own. I'd rather a dozen sprinters lower ranked over Girmay if formed a team as we'd simply get more consistent top 10 results. I don't even think he's one of the best sprinters despite last years Tour. I mean Tours are becoming more and more climber intensive sprinters can win far easier especially if they are essentially a no body before. No one cared for his threat in the tour. They will this time and I don't believe he's going to have a good result due to it.
- Sure, but then again, if it’s just their feeling we should remain skeptic;-) Some days I feel really fast and the clock doesn’t back me up, others I feel slow and the clock tells me I’m not. A different pair of sunglasses is enough to change the impression of speed, making you feel you’re closer or further from the ground.
