Obviously, Robert Gesink was never going to fully stop cycling after his great career as a road professional. And so, instead of enjoying the retirement, the 38-year-old with loads of experience, travelled all the way to Chile to participate in a gravel stage race. And to win!

The four-day Karukinka Gravel Race advertise themselves as the southernmost multi-day gravel race on earth. And that is no lie, because the race takes place on Tierra del Fuego, the farthest south point of Chile. The whole race is 440 kilometers long, with 5500 meters of elevation.

Gesink crossed the finish line first in the first stage. He wrote about it dryly on Instagram: "It was about time to win something again." It wasn't exactly a close race, because Gesink was also able to take selfies during the ride. Below you can see the slide with photos from his Instagram.
